Volunteer in Tanzania

Tanzania is a country in East Africa bordered by Kenya and Uganda to the north; Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west; Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique to the south; and the Indian Ocean to the east. The United Republic of Tanzania came into being in 1964 following the union of the Republic of Tanganyika (formed in 1961) and Zanzibar. Its official languages are Kiswahili and English. Dodoma is the national capital of Tanzania, and the Tanzanian shilling (TZS) is the official currency

Tanzania is a large country, and there are 6 official cities in Tanzania; Arusha, Dodoma, Tanga, Dar-es-salaam, Mwanza and Mbeya. Because most volunteer projects are centered around community work, you’ll most likely be volunteering in one of the major cities. Dar Es Salaam, the previous capital, Moshi, and Arusha are the main destinations.  We are based in Arusha, but expand our prorgams  through other partners which are present in other regions, and so we do our Programs in three Cities which are: Dar-es-salaam, Moshi and Arusha.

When volunteering abroad in a foreign country, it is important to understand a little about the culture. The following facts about Tanzania might be helpful for you: Home to over 120 different ethnic groups and cultures, Tanzania is an inherently peaceful place that embraces its multicultural heritage. It is estimated that a third of the population each follows Islam, Christianity, and traditional religions. In Zanzibar, 99% of the population is Muslim. You may want to keep this in mind when traveling here in Tanzania, this will guarantee you a great experience in this fascinating community.

VHSO main goals

Improve health outcomes

Another goal of Villages health support is to improve health outcomes in the communities it serves. This could involve implementing health promotion programs, conducting research to better understand the health needs of the communities, and advocating for policies and interventions that support improved health outcomes.

Increase access to healthcare services

One of the main goals of Villages health support might be to increase access to healthcare services in underserved communities in Tanzania. This could involve setting up mobile clinics, providing medical supplies and equipment to rural clinics, and partnering with local health centers and hospitals to provide medical care to those who need it.

Build capacity

Villages health support aims to build the capacity of local healthcare professionals and community leaders. This could involve providing training and mentorship programs to healthcare professionals, as well as leadership and management training to community leaders.
